Fish Safe Stability Education Courses
What is Fish Safe Stability Education program all about?
The Fish Safe Stability Education Program has received international recognition for its unique instructional design and ability to present stability concepts in a format that is fishermen friendly. Over 800 BC fishermen from 20 different communities have successfully completed this 4 day course. This practical, hands-on adult learning environment uses models and real life situations to focus threats to stability and how to remove or minimize them and reduce the potential for a capsizing.
Included are:
- vessel modifications;
- gear changes to participate in different fisheries;
- reduced freeboard;
- lack of watertight integrity of hatches and scuttles;
- where weight is situated on a vessel; and
- the effect of free surface on vessel stability.
Couses have been completed for 2011.
The 2012 course schedule and registration form will be added soon.
Register early as space is limited to 10 participants per course.
